Monday the 7th of December 2020 marked the beginning of a year-long celebration across Donegal and Londonderry of the life and legacy of St Columba.
Columba was born in Donegal in 520 and founded his first monastic settlement in Derry.
Columba was a significant figure in the early Irish church and is credited with the spread of Christianity throughout Scotland and further afield.
Representing the Churches Trust, the Church leaders in Derry and Donegal have come together to discuss the importance of Columba 1,500 years on, why he is still relevant today and why we should celebrate him.
This video was commissioned by St. Augustine’s Church as part of the Columba 1500 year, and launched at a special all age worship service in the church on Sunday 20th June 2021.
Scripted, directed and produced by Kieran Griffiths of the Playhouse, Londonderry, the video takes a 'horrible history's style' look at Columba: A Tale from Bad to Good.
This, together with other resources, is being made available by St. Augustine’s to all local schools. The funders were Donegal County Council / Colmcille 1500, The Honourable the Irish Society and the Church of Ireland Board of Education.
